The role of the Student Council: Real Impact.

The Student Council continues to play a vital role in school life, allowing students to share their ideas, opinions, and suggestions in a positive, constructive way. Meeting regularly throughout the school year, council members work together to discuss important issues, review school policies, and explore new ways to improve students' everyday experience at our school.

The council acts as a bridge between students and staff, ensuring that student voices are heard and valued. Through open discussion and teamwork, members bring forward ideas from their classmates and help to create a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students.

This year, 2026, the Student Council has been involved in a wide range of initiatives and events across the school community. With generous funding and support from the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, the council continued to support the school Breakfast Club, helping to provide students with a positive and welcoming start to the school day. Care baskets were also placed in student bathrooms as part of an initiative to support student well-being and promote kindness and inclusivity within the school.

Our Leaving Certificate students worked hard on the creation of a student yearbook, which will serve as a wonderful collection of memories from their years in school. This project was made possible through the support of the Parents’ Association, together with generous contributions from parents, whose kindness and encouragement were greatly appreciated.

Student Council members also played an important role in many key school events throughout the year. Students assisted at enrolment evening, helped out during the school musical, and supported the smooth running of graduation night. Their willingness to volunteer their time and energy reflects the strong sense of school spirit and community within our student body.

Being part of the Student Council allows students to develop important skills such as communication, teamwork, organisation, leadership, and responsibility. The commitment and enthusiasm shown by council members throughout the year have made a valuable contribution to school life.

We would like to sincerely thank all members of the Student Council for their hard work, creativity, and dedication. Their positive contribution continues to make our school a better place for everyone.

Role Models & Mentors

Student leaders act as role models and mentors in St. Joseph’s. Students are strongly encouraged to take up leadership roles within the school serving as role models and mentors for all the students in our school, and helping to build and promote a positive, safe and happy school environment by their presence and example.

Student Mentors have responsibility for specific students in First Year. They give time to these students and are kind and approachable to the students in their care.

Being a student leader in St. Joseph’s enables those involved to develop personally into effective leaders, it creates cohesion between the senior students and the rest of the student body and it aims to use the strengths of the senior leaders to benefit and inspire our younger students. The engagement of the student voice in actions and decisions which shape their learning environment is at the centre of our leadership structures
